Oedipus Journal Entry

1. Catharsis is ultimimately reached by Oedipus "with golden brooches, which the king snatched out and thrust , from full arms length, into his eyes - Eyes that should see no longer his shame, his guilt, No longer see those they should have seen, Nor see, unseeing those who he longed to see"(Sophocles 61) This is the catharsis to me because the way Sophocles describes what Oedipus is doing to himself is the major turning part of the play. Especially when Oedipus finally recognizes the truth so he discharges his emotions by gouging his eyes out to blind himself from the world nd his emotions.

2. Yes because Oedipus did murder a person. It just happened to be fait that he killed his father. You cannot blame murder on fate so Oedipus deserves to be punised in some way. Since he became king and did not go to prison, it serves Oedipus right for making himself blind.
